Korean firms that make server robots for restaurants are peeved that they are being beaten by the Chinese competition. According to the Korean Association of Robot Industry, around 5,000 robots were in use in restaurants in Korea last year, up 67 percent compared to 2021, and their number is expected to rise to 10,000 this year. That means the market is potentially worth US$530 million this year and is forecast to rise to $1 billion by 2026 as owners favor robots over humans amid rising wages. But some 70 percent of the server robots in Korea are made in China because they are cheaper.
