Several policies and programmes have been designed to promote and support the provision of these services. For example, Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY)1 and Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK)2 encourage institutional delivery with the objective of reducing maternal and infant deaths.
