9 August 2023 Following the Council Meeting on Tuesday 8 August 2023, a decision was made to retain a large tree at 3457 Warburton Highway, Warburton and enhance the biodiversity value of the tree and immediate surrounds. The tree, a Mountain Grey Gum (Eucalyptus cypellocarpa) is cabled within the trunk due to extensive decay identified through tomography tests. It was reduced in size in June 2023 following concerns about its safety and risks to the community. To ensure the future safety of the public and to enhance the biodiversity of the tree and surrounds, the tree will now have approximately a 10-metre exclusion zone which will include: the removal of approximately 10-metre radius of asphalt around the tree the installation of a permanent fence additional planting to support potential habitat.
