The projected course of Typhoon Mindulle as of 10 a.m. on Oct. 1, 2021, is seen in this image from the Japan Meteorological Agency website. TOKYO -- Large and very strong Typhoon Mindulle moved northeastward on Oct. 1, engulfing Japan's Hachijo Island in the Izu Islands south of Tokyo in a stormy area. The typhoon is expected to maintain strength and make its closest approach to the Izu Islands by early afternoon. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has called for extreme caution on the Pacific side of eastern and northeastern Japan over risks of powerful winds, heavy rains and rough seas.
