The Job Market Has Been Red Hot. But Cracks Are Showing.

Companies are talking about hiring freezes or laying workers off. Employees are working fewer hours.  The red-hot U.S. labor market, which remains the country's most important buffer against a possible recession, is now cooling noticeably amid spiraling prices and rising economic uncertainty.  Alongside a drop-off in real consumer spending and a second consecutive quarter of negative growth, it's the latest in a series of trends suggesting the country is entering a broad-based economic slowdown.
