Seoul National University wants all 3,700 freshman to live in dorms on its main campus in southern Seoul within the next few years.SNU President Ryu Hong-lim told the Chosun Ilbo last week, "Students need to have an opportunity to live independently from their families and mature as human beings. We intend to help new students develop their own identities as independent citizens by living in dorms in their freshman year." Oxford and Cambridge universities in the U.K. have had the system since their beginning as religious colleges in the Middle Ages.
