MANILA, Philippines — The governments of the Philippines and Japan should apologize for violating the rights of Filipino women who were sexually abused by the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II, the Gabriela Women's Party said on Thursday. Gabriela's call came in light of the landmark ruling of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (UN CEDAW), which found that the Philippines failed to provide Filipino comfort women with 'repatriation, social support and recognition commensurate with the harm suffered.
