Japan expressway discounts to be stopped during 'Golden Week' holidays amid viral spread

(Mainichi/Kazuo Motohashi) TOKYO -- To prevent travel to sightseeing spots and other locations amid a heightened coronavirus spread in the Tokyo metropolitan area and the Kansai region in west Japan, the government will ask expressway operators to suspend holiday toll discounts with the Electronic Toll Collection System (ETC) over the "Golden Week" holiday between late April and early May.
