Inflation Hits 25-Month Low in July
Consumer prices increased a mere 2.3 percent on-year in July, the lowest in 25 months, Statistics Korea said Wednesday. This is due largely to the biggest drop in prices of petroleum products since records began in January 1985 and a slowdown in the growth of service prices. But vegetable prices jumped dramatically as extreme weather blighted harvests. Prices of lettuce, spinach, and young summer radish, which are grown in greenhouses, soared 83.3 percent, 66.9 percent and 55.3 percent from the previous month.
