THEY are the faces of comfort in times of need and the ones to try to keep us calm in the most desperate times, but the hard work and dedication of first responders often goes unnoticed. Wednesday was national Thank a First Responder Day, encouraging people across Australia to voice their appreciation to those who often put their lives on the line to keep their communities safe. Ambulance Victoria Swan Hill branch area manager Mark Burns has been a paramedic in the community for over 30 years and acknowledgement is never something he or his colleagues seek from their job.
