Eagles snap count analysis: Week 5 at Rams

Eagles snap count analysis: Week 5 at Rams
In their Week 5 win over the Los Angeles Rams, the Philadelphia Eagles played 79 snaps on offense, and 56 on defense. Let's just get right to the snap counts, and some notes. Quarterback • 79 snaps: Jalen Hurts Analysis: Hurts ran the ball with power and maybe even a little reckless abandon. His contributions on the ground helped the Eagles win the game, but he and the Eagles will have to find a balance between making plays and exercising caution. It's a marathon, not a sprint. Running back • 49 snaps: D'Andre Swift • 30 snaps: Kenny Gainwell Analysis: 17-70-0 for Swift, 7-17 for Gainwell.

Mailbag: Is the Eagles' offensive line still elite?
A few days ago, we solicited questions for an Eagles mailbag via Twitter or whatever it's called now. Thank you as always for doing half the work for me. This is Part II of a two-part mailbag (Part I here). Let's just get right to it. Question from @bigseb31213: What's going on with the offensive line in pass pro? The focus has been in the secondary and passing game, but the 'best O-line in football' has given up the 2nd most sacks? In 2022, the Eagles took 48 sacks (44 during the regular season, four in the playoffs).

Turns out the 'tush push' is only 'unstoppable' when the Eagles do it
In recent years, the Philadelphia Eagles have relied heavily on QB sneaks on third- and fourth-down short yardage situations, converting on them at an extremely high rate. In 2022, they took their QB sneak efficiency to a new level by lining up players behind Jalen Hurts and pushing him over the line to gain for first downs or touchdowns. They even did it on football's biggest stage against the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, which only brought more attention to it. — not highlight heaven (@ABsneurosurgeon) February 12, 2023 Hoping to stop it off of the field instead of on it, a number of other NFL teams unsuccessfully attempted this past offseason to outlaw the so-called "tush push.

Planned Parenthood's political arm ramps up ad campaign focused on Pa. Supreme Court race
The political arm of reproductive rights organization Planned Parenthood is ramping up its ad campaign focused on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court election, making its largest investment ever in a state Supreme Court race. Planned Parenthood Votes announced it was expanding last month's digital campaign and adding a seven-figure television ad buy. 'Erased' will run across television, streaming and digital channels in the Pittsburgh and Philadelphia areas. Like last month's ad campaign, it focuses on Republican candidate Carolyn Carluccio, who is running against Democrat Daniel McCaffery for the seat left vacant when Justice Max Baer died last year.

It was a packed week in Phillies baseball with the playoff race coming down to the wire on top of a medical incident involving one of its only two World Series-winning managers and most beloved franchise alumni. Here's the latest rundown: Unbuttoned confidence Johan Rojas is getting increasingly more comfortable in the big leagues and only seems to be making a stronger and stronger case to be one of the outfielders on the postseason roster. The Philadelphia Eagles will kick off their 2023 season at 4:25 p.m. today against the New England Patriots, their first obstacle in their quest to get back to the Super Bowl. One of the Eagles' biggest priorities each summer is making sure that their best players are available for the games that actually matter. NJ Transit riders now can use cash to pay fares on their smartphones
New Jersey Transit riders no longer need to use a credit or debit card to purchase electronic fares on the NJ Transit mobile app. Instead, these fares can be purchased with cash at more than 1,000 stores. The alternative payment method, rolled out last week, aims to expand access to people without bank accounts and reduce the number of paper bus, train and light rail tickets. The first 2,000 people to utilize the feature will receive a $5 credit toward NJ Transit tickets and passes within 30 days of signing up for the app.

The United States has the highest maternal death rate among affluent countries, and the COVID-19 pandemic appears to have exacerbated the situation. The maternal death rate increased by nearly 38% in 2021, the second year of the pandemic, according to a report released Thursday by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A missed call ended Sixers comeback chance vs. Nuggets
The Sixers made the Denver Nuggets sweat out a win against a group of backups on Monday night, with an expected MVP showdown falling apart in the hours before the game. Should the Sixers have had a chance to tie the game late? The answer appears to be yes. In the final minute of Monday's loss in Denver, Philadelphia had cut the lead to three points following a Montrezl Harrell dunk with 28 seconds left. Opting not to foul right away while hoping to get a stop, the Sixers eventually ran out of rope when Jalen McDaniels fouled Jeff Green at the rim with 13 seconds left.

Flyers 'find a way,' beat Devils 5-2 in season opener
Head coach John Tortorella came into camp with a mission to "get this thing back on the rails," and that push began with a 5-2 win over the New Jersey Devils in the season opener, with a Wells Fargo Center crowd that ended up far more electric than most would've expected. Wade Allison, Travis Konecny, Morgan Frost, and Tanner Laczynski – names that have been hurt, names that have struggled, names that the Flyers are banking themselves on – all got on the scoresheet, while the rest of the lineup threw the body around without hesitation and kept the crease clear for goaltender Carter Hart as he stopped 35 of 37 shots.

Eagles-Cowboys: An early look at the odds
It wasn't pretty, but with a late field goal drive, a Kyler Murray slide that fell one yard short, and a last-second kick that sailed wide, the Eagles beat the Cardinals 20-17 and remain undefeated at 5-0. Now it's finally on to Dallas Week, with Round 1 back in Philadelphia in primetime on Sunday night. It may be the biggest indicator of where the Eagles actually are. The Birds have been impressive through the season's first five weeks, but have also been the benefactors of one of the NFL's easiest schedules.

NBA analyst says Sixers have one of the easiest schedules
Strength of schedule could be working heavily in the Sixers' favor this season, at least until the All-Star break. After the NBA released its 2022-23 regular-season slate in full earlier this week, Ed Küpfer, a data analyst for the Houston Rockets, reviewed each of the 30 teams' schedules and created projections for how easy a time they might have through four different chunks of the season – pre-Thanksgiving, pre-New Years, pre-All Star Break, and post-All Star Break. MLB rumors: Phillies could pursue Xander Bogaerts this winter
There was an interesting tidbit for Phillies fans in The Boston Globe over the weekend. From Red Sox reporter Peter Abraham in his Sunday notebook: "Hearing that if the Sox let Xander Bogaerts get to the open market, the Phillies will be eager suitors." Never too early to get the hot stove going, it seems, even in an active playoff chase. This isn't the first time Bogaerts and the Phillies have been mentioned in the same breath. The 29-year-old shortstop can opt out of his contract with the Red Sox after this season, and is likely to do so now that Boston has bottomed out and is looking to retool – The Red Sox are 69-72 as of Monday and last in the AL East.

Tyrone Johnson: Eagles should chase sustained excellence, not perfection
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I am thankful for all of you who listen, watch, or read my work and I hope you enjoy it. I also hope that you get to spend this time with family and if you don't have family, know that I am thinking of you. Now on to the football. The Eagles sit at 9-1 and are seven-point favorites on Sunday Night Football. By any reasonable measure, we have a tremendous amount to be thankful for in Philadelphia sports this Thanksgiving. Philadelphia is on the cusp of being the new city of winners.
