PH failed to aid World War II ‘comfort women' – UN body
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine government failed to give its World War II 'comfort women' reparations, social support, and recognition despite their long-time clamor, according to the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). The committee released that statement about its decision on Wednesday, International Women's Day. In a landmark decision, the committee said the Philippine government had reneged on its international obligations for failing to provide immediate redress to comfort women, a euphemism for women who were forced into sexual slavery by Japanese occupation troops in World War I.
