Oregon State University researchers will play key roles in a new multi-institution earthquake research center dedicated to the study of the Pacific Northwest's Cascadia Subduction Zone, which is capable of producing earthquakes comparable to the largest recorded globally. The U.S. National Science Foundation has awarded $15 million over five years to the Cascadia Region Earthquake Science Center, or CRESCENT. The center includes researchers from 14 institutions across the U.S., including Oregon State and Portland State University, and will be led by Diego Melgar of the University of Oregon.
