Smithton Police detected a 27-year-old Smithton man travelling at 119 km/h through the 80km/h speed zone at the Stanley turnoff on the Bass Highway at 9.55pm on Tuesday. The driver is the holder of a Provisional (P1) licence and received an infringement notice disqualifying him for a period of 3 months. He also received a fine of 6 demerit points and $828.75. "Police remind motorists to remember that speeding is one of the fatal five contributing factors to fatal and serious injury crashes on our roads," said Sergeant Lee-anne Walters of Smithton Police.
