WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Joe Biden will host a second summit with leaders of the Pacific Islands Forum at the White House on Monday, part of his efforts to step up engagement with a region where the U.S. is in a battle for influence with China. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement the summit with the 18-member forum would take place on Monday and Tuesday. At the summit, Biden would 'reaffirm the U.S. commitment to our shared regional priorities' with the Pacific islanders, and deepen cooperation with them in a range of areas, the statement said.
