U.S. Department of Defense Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III welcomed President of Mozambique Filipe Jacinto Nyusi to the Pentagon today to discuss the growing bilateral defense relationship countering violent extremist organizations in Africa and the 3D approach of defense, development, and diplomacy. The two leaders exchanged views on regional issues of shared interest, as well as Mozambique's role on the U.N. Security Council, selection as a Millennium Challenge Corporation compact recipient.
