MANILA, Philippines—The P1,000 that the government will provide to millions of poorest households is 'better than nothing but won't give much relief.' Sonny Africa, executive director of the think tank Ibon Foundation, said this on Thursday (March 9), as 9.3 million households are set to receive P500 each for two months. As Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno said, a cash assistance of P1,000, which will be divided for two months, will be released in 'a few days or weeks' to help the poorest of the poor cope with accelerating inflation.
