일러스트=최정진 아시안게임 내내 세계도핑방지기구(WADA)와 아시아올림픽평의회(OCA)는 북한 인공기를 둘러싸고 갈등을 빚었다(be at odds).WADA는 2021년 북한의 반도핑기구가 규정에 맞게(in accordance with regulations) 테스트를 시행하지 않는다는 이유로 올림픽‧패럴림픽 이외의 모든 국제대회 인공기 게양을 금지했다(ban the hoisting of the North Korean flag). WADA는 전 세계 선수들의 약물 복용 감시를 위해(in an effort to monitor athletes worldwide for drug use) 주기적으로 검사원을 각 나라에 파견해 도핑 테스트를 실시하는데, 북한은 코로나19를 빌미로 입국을 거부해 제재 조치가 내려졌다(be sanctioned for refusing to allow monitors to enter)그런데 이번 아시안게임 개최국(host country) 중국은 개회식(opening ceremony)부터 폐회식(closing ceremony)까지 어디에서나 북한 인공기 게양을 허용했고(allow it to be flown), OCA는 이를 방치했다(turn a blind eye to it).
