Making businesses more sustainable is a challenge, but it is also an opportunity. Ciaran Maguire, a former IT marketer, saw a chance to launch his business, Love Earth Smart Water System, to eliminate the use of water bottles in hotel guest rooms. He launched the venture at the end of last year and so far his target market is lapping it up. Maguire's research found that 92 per cent of the glass, plastic or carton water bottles routinely stocked in hotels worldwide are not recycled but end up in landfill — a massive waste.
